Out of the Darkness Walk

Chapter Philanthropy

A walk for the prevention of suicide held annually at Nova Southeastern University. The Out of the Darkness Community Walk benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in its mission to prevent suicide and assist those affected by suicide.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among high school and college students, and more than 32,000 people in the U.S. die by suicide each year. The AFSP uses the money raised from the walks to fund research, education, survivor and awareness programs.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education, and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.

St. Jude Children Research Hospital
National Philanthropy

In January of 2010, LTA became an official collegiate partner to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; becoming the first individual Latino Greek organization to commit fully to the hospital's efforts. With this partnership, LTA provides our resources of community service and activism and more importantly, another direct link to the Hispanic community for St. Jude. LTA has pledged to raise awareness about childhood cancer and St. Jude in the Latin community, as well as fundraise for the hospital through a variety of events and programs.
